We have heard the saying "Think outside the box." It is often used during brainstorming sessions, particularly in the corporate setting, and occasionally otherwise. I would like to bring it into our spiritual or religious way of thinking. I have been working on my own way of thinking in trying to allow God to open up my mind and expand my thoughts so they allow for only what He can do. My prayer in times when nothing is changing or things don't align is for Him to do something so God that no one can take any credit for it.
After King Solomon had finished building the temple, he offered up a prayer of dedication to God in which he asked God to make the temple a central place for His people to pray in or towards and receive an answer. One part of that prayer that sticks out for me is this: "But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You, How much less this temple that I have built!" (II Chronicles 6:18 NKJV).
It seemed a strange thing for Solomon, and he could hardly imagine the presence of the Lord in the temple he had built, when the vastness of the heavens could not contain him; yet he prayed that God would honor what he had said and put His Name there. When Solomon finished praying, God responded in extraordinary fashion. Fire came down from heaven, consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices which they were offering, and the glory of the Lord so filled the temple, that the priests could not entered (II Chronicles 7:1,2).
If you are praying small; if you are praying cautiously; if you can only imagine limited ways in which God can move; if you have reservations as to if or how God will respond, think again. God, who made the heavens and the earth, who sits on His throne in heaven and calls the earth his footstool (Isaiah 66:1,2), who has the power over all His creation, has the power to show up, and to utilize our biggest accomplishment, our smallest offering, and even our weakest prayer. Don't box him out with unbelief and doubt. Think outside the box, or as is said in other parts of the world, think outside the square. Think bigger, think higher, and even then, your biggest and highest thought, has no comparison to his smallest thought for you. There is so much more waiting for you outside the box or the square.
Blessings!
